New York, New York -- Shake off winter's chill on March 9, 200 at 7:00 p.m., with WINTER HEAT, a special benefit Latin Dance Party at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan, located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, (49th Street Entrance) 65th Floor. Enjoy an evening of hot excitement while dancing to the sounds of the 21-piece Harbor Latin Big Band. The evening includes a special performance by the Harbor Conservatory's Gestures Dance Ensemble, dance demonstration by a Champion dance Team, (to be selected) and a Latin dance lesson by Nydia Ocasio.
Winter Heat raises funds for the Harbor Conservatory’s Tito Puente Scholarship for the study of Afro-Caribbean Latin Music and our distinguished Dance Program. Our partner in the event is the national arts service organization: Career Transition For Dancers. The evening includes a cocktail hour with open bar and Hors d’oeuvres followed by a three course dinner at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $200 for the gala evening. Relive the Palladium Era when the music of the “big three” Machito, Tito Puente, and Tito Rodriguez enticed everyone, attracting Lindy Dancers from the Savoy, and anyone else who could hold their own on the dance floor. Remember a time when the mambo and cha cha cha reigned supreme. The Harbor Latin Big Band under the direction of Louis Bauzo is dedicated to the sounds of the golden age of Latin Music. The Harbor Latin Big Band has performed with such Latin greats as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros, and many more. They have
appeared at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Mid Summer Night Swing at
Winter Heat Proceeds will support East Harlem's leading pre-professional performing arts school, Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, now celebrating 39 years of enriching the lives of young people through the performing arts, and a division of Boys & Girls Harbor; and, Career Transition for Dancers, the national and local arts service organization with a 24 year history of helping professional dancers identify their unique talents in preparation for establishing new careers when dance is no-longer an option.
